Make Your Own Delicious Almond Milk In Minutes

Ah yes spring is here!  The dogwoods have all bloomed and the fireplace in my home seems lonely.  But with the coming sun and warmth also comes allergy season and my once yearly struggle to breath through my nose.  A few years back a good friend of mine got me hooked on almond milk and what I noticed when I started substituting it for cows milk in my cereal and coffee was that my allergies went away.  Simple yet effective!  Why not give it try yourself.  Almond milk actually has more calcium per glass then cows milk and I will let you in on the big secret to enjoying heavenly almond milk.  MAKE IT YOURSELF!  It only takes a few minutes of prep, 2-4 ingredients and you’ll love the froth and creamy texture that can’t be found in store bought.  Bottoms Up:)

Homemade Almond Milk

Ingredients
  • 1 cup soaked (over night) almonds
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tbl maple syrup or other sweetener
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Cheese Cloth
  • Large Bowl
  • Strainer

Directions

Once your almonds are sufficiently soaked, ad them to a blender with the 3 cups of water.  Blend for a few minutes.

Place a folded piece of cheese cloth on a strainer.  The cheese cloth should have enough layers that almonds won’t pass through.  4 layers should be enough.  The strainer holds the cheese cloth in place while you pour the almond “smoothie” through.

Let it strain.  You will be left with almond pulp in the cloth and almond milk in your bowl.  You can wrap the cheese cloth around the pulp to get the last little bit of liquid.

Add your sweetener and a dash of vanilla and mix with a spoon.
And there you have the best almond milk you will ever try.  Rich and frothy:)
