WHAT IS PRAMA?

Prama means “dynamic balance” in Sanskrit. On an individual level, this means fostering harmony between body, mind, and spirit. On a collective level, it means stewarding balance between people, community, and environment.

THE PRAMA STORY

Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains have always been a place of healing, relaxation, and beauty. In the early 1990s,  a project was conceived that would utilize this amazing environment to develop a unique center for individual growth, lifestyle transformation, and community development.

In 1996, the Prama Institute’s main geodesic dome was constructed and opened for small retreats and programs. The final section of the building was added on in 2006, which included a library and a 3-storied geodesic dome with bedrooms, a dining area, and a kitchen. With greater capacity, the retreat center started hosting wellness retreats, poetry workshops, environmental and social activist programs, concerts, community gatherings, yoga teacher trainings, and others programs aligned with its objectives.

Later on, in 2012, the Prama Institute received a donation of five acres and within a year, the Prama Wellness Center was constructed for the purpose of offering a variety of wellness and juice cleanse programs. The two locations, collectively known as the Prama Institute & Wellness Center, soon became a leading retreat center in the Southeast, providing programs that are personal, supportive, and transformative.
