OVERCOMING ADDICTIONS NATURALLY
Overcoming Addictions Naturally Retreat
This retreat, which is based on our popular 5 Day Juice Cleanse, combines five treatment modalities—mindfulness, yoga, juice cleansing, nutrition, and counseling—in a powerful and path-breaking program for overcoming addiction naturally.
An important part of overcoming addiction successfully is to replace destructive habits with new and more positive habits. By combining mindfulness meditation, yoga, nutrient-rich foods, and the latest discoveries in addiction therapy, this program will teach hands-on techniques on how to reduce stress and kick bad habits naturally.
Topics covered during this retreat:
Nutrition and Diet
The new science of functional medicine advocates three main ways to achieve good health: cleansing the body of toxins, good nutrition, and lowering stress. At the retreat, you will experience a three-day juice cleanse to help the body detox. You will also learn about the best and latest in plant-based nutrition. Finally, you will be introduced to mindfulness meditation to help reduce stress, since stress can also negatively affect digestion and good health.
Most importantly, you will be introduced to the importance of good nutrition in ending cravings and addictions. It is much easier to stay alcohol, drug, and sugar-free when you eat a good diet and exercise regularly. It is also much easier to end food addiction with the right nutrition and herbs to reduce cravings for carbs and sugar.
Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness meditation has been used to relieve stress for hundreds of years – and scientific studies have shown that practicing mindfulness meditation in addiction recovery actually helps prevent relapse. There is no way to avoid stress, but a recovering addict can learn how to lower his or her sensitivity to stress. By practicing mindfulness meditation, you can teach your brain to consciously accept stressors and deal with them in a calm and positive way instead of letting them make you react in a compulsive manner.
If we are going to free ourselves from addictive behavior, we must learn how to embrace our full range of thoughts, feelings and physical sensations. Mindfulness meditation helps us skillfully work with being uncomfortable, develops “distress tolerance”, and is a powerful tool for relapse prevention. Rather than escaping what is painful, mindfulness meditation encourages us to sit quietly with ourselves and pay close attention to our thoughts and feelings without taking action to judge or change them. It is not about apathy or suppression of feelings, but rather the freedom to experience the full range of experiences and strategically choose how to respond appropriately.
Yoga Exercises for Stress Reduction and Good Digestion
Yoga exercises are very relaxing and calming and can thus also help reduce stress. Particular combinations of yoga exercises can effect the endocrine glandular system and the lymphatic system in positive ways and thus both reduce stress and help eliminate toxins from the body. The practice of the two yoga poses shoulder stand and fish, for example, can reduce thyroid problems, such as hyperactivity, low metabolism, and depression. The combined practice of mindfulness and yoga can therefore be very helpful for recovering addicts in dealing with stress.
Yoga for Feeling Better in Your Body
Mindful yoga movements have a calming effect on your body and brain and can help you manage stress with less reactivity. Particular combinations of yoga forms can affect the endocrine glandular system and the lymphatic system in positive ways and thus both reduce stress and help eliminate toxins. Practicing two yoga poses in particular, shoulder stand and fish, can reduce thyroid problems, which can show up as hyperactivity, low metabolism, and depression. The combined practices of mindfulness, yoga, and conscious breathing are very helpful in establishing a strong recovery from addiction due to the simultaneous balancing effects.
In sum, these are the topics clients will learn from this retreat:
- Introduction to basic nutrition and basic super-nutrition
- The importance of good digestion to maintain a strong immune system
- The importance of certain foods to reduce depression and tiredness
- Simple trauma-sensitive mindfulness and yoga practices to more effectively manage stress and avoid return to use.
- How juice cleansing can help detox and heal the body naturally.
- The keys to reach optimum health and weight by combining the rights foods and herbs to reduce cravings.
