When the feasting is over, it’s time for fasting. Especially if you feel a bit heavy and sluggish from all the food and drinks you enjoyed during the holidays. People tend to eat heavier food during the cold season. But even if you eat and drink in moderation, fasting is always great for health and longevity.
Either way, I hope you have had a lot of fun. Starting the New Year with a fasting plan—intermittent or otherwise—is a good way to shed any lingering weight and/or feelings of guilt.
Besides attending a juice cleanse retreat at Prama, you can also fast at home, but it is much easier and more fun to do it at a retreat together with others.
At a Prama Wellness Retreat, you will learn to take charge of your own health. You will learn that your lifestyle is more powerful in improving your health than quick-fix supplements.
By integrating various natural health systems without compromising their integrity, a new, often more effective therapeutic system can emerge. This, we think, is the secret behind the Prama Wellness Method’s success—creating holistic change and dynamic balance through integration.
Here are some of the benefits of the Prama Wellness Method:
- cleans and rejuvenates the body
- boosts the immune system
- prevents imbalances and illness
- reduces stress
- calms and strengthens the mind,
- helps maintains long-term wellness
Here are some of the features you will learn during a retreat at Prama:
- Plant-based food:Both scientific studies as well as the lifestyles of the longest living people in the world, such as those living in the Blue Zones, have clearly demonstrated that a nutrient dense, plant- based diet is the most optimum diet for human life. A plant-based diet is also the most environmentally sustainable.
- Juice cleansing:Studies by Dr. Valter Longo have shown that intermittent fasting, including juice cleansing, help improve the digestive system, flush out toxins from the bloodstream and re-energize your body. All major holistic health systems teach that cleansing the body of toxins is the most important first step in restoring health.
- Ayurvedic lifestyle modifications:The second most important step in building a healthy body and mind is to modify the lifestyle that created our problems in the first place. This is where Ayurveda comes in. There is perhaps no better system in creating personalized lifestyle changes than through a personalized use of Ayurvedic principles.
- Therapeutic yoga:The yoga we practice here at Prama is slow and gentle. It helps regulating the breath and bringing the body and mind into a state of peace and relaxation. Slow yoga is becoming increasingly popular as an antidote to our stressful lifestyle.
- Mindfulness and mantra meditation: Mindfulness meditation is a time-tested method for reducing stress and increasing our willpower. Combined with mantra meditation, one may dive into deeper meditative states.
- Stress management:According to Dr. Andrew Weil, there are two main reasons for poor health: stress and bad lifestyle choices. This concurs with our own observation. Therefore, learning how to cope with stress is key to long term personal transformation.
- Personal Consultation: One of the unique offerings at Prama Wellness is a personal consultation during which we will help you design an individualized lifestyle program. When you combine this consultation with all the rest you will learn during our programs, you will be well-equipped to adopt your own integrative lifestyle program at home.

Food and Fasting for Healing and Health

If the body naturally detoxes every day, even while we sleep, why is it still important to detox with a juice cleanse or alkaline superfoods? Because the food we eat is not always healthy or alkaline; it may contain too much acid-producing processed flour, sugar, animal fat, and dairy. When we overeat, too many toxins are left in the body. Stress is another reason; too much work and too little sleep will create imbalances in the body’s digestive ecology.
