4-Ingredient Vegan Truffles

Are you wanting something decadent, delicious, (and easy) to take to your Holiday party?  Try these incredible vegan, fig & chocolate vegan truffles!  There are a lot of variations you can incorporate into the basic recipe, so get creative and satisfy everyone’s Holiday sweet tooth.

Ingredients:  (use organic when possible)

6 ounces dried figs

1.5 oz hazelnuts

3.5 oz vegan dark or milk chocolate – the melting kind

1 Tbs unsweetened vegan powdered cacao or cocoa

Optional ingredients: Coconut, crushed pistachios or peppermint candies, powdered sugar

• Soak your figs for 10 minutes in warm water, if they are hard or very dry.

• Place figs, hazelnuts and cacao in a food processor and blend on medium until you get a dough-like, sticky consistency.  If it’s clumpy and too thick, just add a small amount of warm water, a little at a time, to get a thick dough-like consistency.

• While you’re melting your chocolate, put the ‘dough’ in the refrigerator for around 30 minutes.

• Gently, melt your chocolate in a double boiler or microwave. Once the chocolate is melted, take your truffle dough out of the fridge and form small, walnut-sized truffles.  This is great fun for kids to do with you!

• Drop every truffle, by fork, one at a time, into the melted chocolate.  Coat each truffle very well and then place on parchment paper on a sheet pan or plate.

• Once the truffles have slightly cooled (but not fully hardened), sprinkle with sweetened or unsweetened coconut, crushed hazelnuts, cashews, walnuts, or sea salt and put in the refrigerator to chill.

• Once the truffles are fully set and the chocolate is hardened, remove them from the refrigerator and dust the plain ones with cacao and place on a festive plate. You can lightly dust the serving plate as well with powdered sugar or cocoa.

These truffles are festive on a Holiday table or in gift boxes for your Holiday celebration with friends and family.  Enjoy!

I never realized how important fresh and clean water was to my life before I, as a young man, spent time in poor and dry parts of India, where fresh water was not always easy to come by. Especially not clean water. One day, in the sweltering heat of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, I sank to my knees of exhaustion due to dehydration. Water is indeed essential for keeping us energized and alive.
